Teachers should be free to present controversial views and theories in their classrooms.
The issue at hand is whether or not teachers are allowed to teach things that are controversial in the classroom. This is an important issue because sometimes parents don't want children to be exposed to these ideas. But I believe that teachers should feel free to teach these topics, even if some people think they are controversial.
I think that teachers should be free because it is necessary that every student should be aware of things going around our society irrespective of good or bad. Teachers should prepare the students in a way that they are able to distinct bad and good things prevailing in the society. For this reason I think that teachers should be free to teach controversial views.
Additionally, I think teachers should feel free to teach controversial views because education is a divine thing which provide genuine picture of worldly things at a primary level to all the students which can be useful to them at various stages of life. So, there is a need to provide genuine knowledge irrespective of good or bad. Based on the above reason, I believe that teachers should be allowed to teach the controversial views also.
For example, in countries like India taking about sexual interaction and their repercussions are seen as a social taboo. In addition to that parents and elders are not in a position to teach to their students about the consequences of the sexual interaction. Due to this many people are affected with sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, AIDS etc. without knowing the consequences of unsafe sexual practices. From this example, I believe that teachers should be ready to teach controversial issues without any hesitation.
Lastly, I conclude that teachers should be free to present controversial views and theories in their classrooms. Based on above reasons and examples, I strongly support my assertion.
- Educational institutions should actively encourage their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers 65
- Nations should pass laws to preserve any remaining wilderness areas on their natural state, even if these areas could be developed for economic gain 55
- Teachers should be free to present controversial views and theories in their classrooms. 70
