Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart delineates the average number of hours allocated to six different activities by the oldest and youngest populations in the US in 2015.
Overall, the younger group tended to enjoy active activities including socializing, using computers for entertainment and engaging in physical activities while their old counterparts preferred passive activities, namely watching TV, reading and relaxing. It is also notable that watching TV was the most popular activity for both groups.
As for inactive activities, watching TV took most of the time of both young and old people, with figures being 2.4 and 4.5 hours respectively. While senior citizens spent 1 hour every day on reading, the youth only allocated a fifth of that to this activity. Relaxing was also not popular among teenagers as they dedicated only 0.1 hours to this, compared to 0.6 hours of old people.
In terms of more active activities, while young people spent more time on this category, both age brackets showed relatively small figures. In particular, socializing took a quite similar amount of time for both, with the young allocating 0.8 hours to this activity, only 0.1 hours more than the older group. However, the discrepancy is more pronounced regarding playing games, as teenagers spent 1.1 hours on this form of entertainment, about two times higher than the figure for senior citizens. Sports and exercise took up 0.6 and 0.2 hours of young and old people’s everyday time respectively.
