The graph below fives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph illustrates the amount of fuel energy use by the USA over a fifty-year timescale, with a forecast for the future. Overall there is an upward trend throughout the use of all types of fuel.
Although there are plenty of energy sources, people in the USA have been using petrol and oil as the most important fuel for their daily life since 1980. We can see there is a similar fluctuate pattern between petrol, oil, and coal between 1980 and 2005, however, there was a considerable increase from 2006 and it is predicted to continue to increase in the future. While the usage of petrol and oil will reach a peak of 47.5 quadrillion units in 2030 compared to 35 quadrillion in 1980, the consumption of coal in the US will only reach 27.5 quadrillion from 20 quadrillion in 1980. Besides coal, petrol, and oil, natural gas is also one of the most popular fuel in the USA. The usage of natural gas decreased slightly between 1980 and 1995, however, it recovered in 1996 and fluctuated till 2015. Natural gas is predicted to remain stable in the future.
In contrast, Nuclear, solar, wind or hydropower is not quite popular among USA citizens and there is only about 4.75 quadrillion units has been used in 1980. The use of these energy sources fluctuated around 5 quadrillion between 1980 and 2009 and remained stable from 2015. However, people believe that there will be a slight increase in the consumption of nuclear, solar and wind energy in 2025.
