The lecture refuted the opinion raised in the reading that the portrait is was not drawn by Rembrandt.
Firstly, the pigment about the fur collar is not indeed the original collar. It was covered by another one to make it look more valuable and formal. The original woman did wear like a servant, so that is where the inconsistency come from.
Secondly, the light and shadow are the realistic one because the woman wears a light cloth that illuminated her face, so it looks bright rather than what the reading talk about. The portrait ‘s light and shadow fit well just like what Rembrandt will do.
Thirdly, the mystery of the panel consisting of the patches glued can also be solved the panel which was tested in the examination was not the one in the original. The panel was enlarged to make it more grand in size and valuable. The original one was a single type and it belongs to Rembrandt according to the history.
Finally, the wood was found be be the same tree of the other panels which belong to Rembrandt, like the “Self- Portrait with a hat.”
