TPO-48 - Integrated Writing Task
The lecture and the reading are about the threatening of frog habitats. The reading suggests several methods to protect them from endanger. However, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and refuses every of the methods given in the reading. He does not feel that these methods are as beneficial as the author assumes.
First of all, the lecturer states that prohibition of pesticides use in farm will be very costly to the farmers. Farmers use these pesticides to protect their crop from insects, and thus they can produce large amount of crops. If the prohibition law will be implemented to those farm lands which are near to the frog habitat, then farmers of these lands will be under great loss. Their crop yield will be lesser than the farms which are away from frog habitat. Hence, this method is not an effective one and would cause a great deal of expense.
Secondly, the lecturer contends that skin fungus treatments are not logical at all. The treatments require to treat single frog at a time. To capture a frog and treat it with medication does not make sense. Furthermore, these treatments do not pass on to next generation, so they should be applied to every generation of frogs, which makes this method a complicated one.
Finally, the lecturer mentions that the major cause of threatening of frog habitats is global warming and not the human activities. Measures to protect the wetlands by reducing the use of water by human beings will not work in protecting the frog species.
In conclusion, lecturer refutes the methods mentioned in reading. This is because prohibition of pesticides use in farm will be very costly, skin fungus treatments are complicated methods and the major cause of threatening of frog habitats is global warming.
