The reading and the lecture are both about hydrogen, which is a kind of fuel can use as the energy for cars. The author of the reading believes that there are a lot of advantages of using hydrogen. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks hydrogen is not a solution to replace gas, which we use to engine the cars today.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that the resource to produce hydrogen is easy and available, because even people can use water and natural gas to make the hydrogen. This point is challenged by the lecture. He says that making hydrogen is not easy as the reading has mentioned. People cannot use water directly, but they have to obtain pure liquid, this requires very cold temperature. Therefore, it demands a lot of work.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that using hydrogen is not harmful to the environment. The lecture rebuts this argument that even though hydrogen does not affect negatively to the environment, the process to make hydrogen generates pollution very much. He says that to produce hydrogen, people have to burn oil and coal. Therefore, the factories, which make hydrogen cause of tremendous pollution to the environment.
Finally, the author of the reading states that the cost of using hydrogen is cheaper twice than internal-combustion engines. The lecture on the other hand, opposes this idea. He refutes that the price of making and using the hydrogen is more expensive, because it is manufactured from platinum, which is rare and expensive.
