The reading and the Lecture are both about Rembrandt’s painting. The author of the reading believes that painting was not created by Rembrandt. The lecturer cast to points on the claim made in the article. He thinks that original painting was different from that of Rembrandt’ painting, so that’s why we feel that painting was not created by him.
First of all, the author point out about the women’s dressing. It is mentioned in the reading the women is wearing a dress whose collar was having fur which was white in color. It was representing luxury as it was so costly that no one can afford. This point is challenged by the lecturer that in the original painting there was no such furry collar on her dress, instead a simple white collar was there. He said that than why exactly this changes where depicted by the painter. Furthermore, he argues that the changes might have created to increase the popularity of the painting in order to make it more professional.
Secondly, the author contends that Rembrandt was professional in displaying right mixture of light and shadow in the painting. The article note that this was not reflected in the painting created by Rembrandt about the women. The author rebuts that proportion of light and shadow was not manageable that’s the reason the face of the women was in dark and not visible properly. He suggests that it would have been good if the painter had created the original version because, due to the furry collar the measurement of light and shadow deviated and so the painting is not able to display women’s face appropriately.
Finally, the author states that painting was created on a plan which was integrated from several wood of trees. The lecturer on the other hand, posits that the original painting was created on single plan, and was made of the same wood which Rembrandt had used. He put forth the idea that it was more feasible to create the original version of the painting rather than making changes, because this was the reason why the painting created by Rembrandt was having several issues
