The graph describes the emissions of CO2 on individual basis in four countries from 1967 to 2007. The emissions increased in Italy and Portugal and decreased in United Kingdom and Sweden in 10 decade period.
To begins with, Portugal and Italy had the lowest rate of CO2 emissions in 1967, at 1 and close to 4 metric tonnes respectively. In next three decades, both Italy and Portugal saw greater increases in CO2 emissions measuring 5 and close to 8 metric tonnes respectively. After 1997, the emissions rate plateaued and continued to remain at same level by 2007.
On the other hand, the CO2 emissions per person were quite high in UK and Sweden in 1967. Each person accounted to 11 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions in UK, while in Sweden it was close to 9 metric tonnes. By 1979, these emissions figure remained steady in UK. But in Sweden, they rose sharply to over 10 metric tonnes. In the following years there was a decrease in these emissions. Sweden saw a tremendous drop from 10 metric tonnes in 1979 to 7 metric tonnes in 1987, coinciding with Italy, and continued to decrease to match levels with Portugal at 5 metric tonnes by 2007. By contrast, UK saw a steady decline in its emissions measuring below 9 metric tonnes in 2007.
