It is quite often when you are attending a meeting; the speaker may state inaccurate information. Whether you interrupt the speaker to correct him or wait until the meeting or class end has caused much controversy. Some people contend state you have to adjust the professor right away because he might make this mistake on purpose to know who is paying more attention to the lecture. However, from my perspective and actual observation of life makes me believe that you have to wait until the class is over to state your opinion regarding the incorrect information which indicated by the speaker for a couple of reasons. I will try to elaborate on my view in more details.
The first exquisite point to be mentioned is that being polite and respectful. In my opinion, people should respect each other in any situation. The speaker may feel embarrassed if got corrected by the listener, In other words, to be opposed in a front group of people that is something let you feel embarrassing. For example, I remember when I was in pharmacy school. In biology class, the professor was talking about a new creature, He identified him as a reptile. However, I acknowledged him as mammals since I had been prepared for the assignment. I wanted not to oppose him in the front of a large group of students; I might be right or not. So, I sacred to embarrassed him or myself. I waited until the end of the lecture; I took to him, and I was right. He corrected the information that he stated before for the whole students without bothering him in the front of a large group.
Another reason that deserves more word is that the presentation or the lecture will go smoothly since every introduction or conference has its plan. If one interrupted it, it would affect emotionally on the speaker and the pace of the presentation. Therefore, correcting the lecturer’s mistake could waste his or her time. For instance, my brother is working in a more prominent company as engineering. Each month his manager bring them expertise in software to make the presentation about the recent discoveries in the software. Once a time, one of the co-workers claimed on what the knowledge was saying in his introduction that let him feel distracted, and the co-worker kept argued him most of the time that wasted the whole time in contention without getting beneficial information from the expertise. As a result, he was not willing to make another presentation in his company anymore.
Admittedly, by correcting mistakes immediately, further errors will be avoided. Sometimes, even a small mistake can cause a mass misunderstanding between students, which may create a big problem for them in the future. Thus, immediate interruption is the best approach to prevent more errors in the future.
As all things considered, waiting until the end of the lecture is the best way since you do not know exactly if you are right or not. Waiting until the end gives you a chance to share more ideas, and learn more.
