The article states the theories about how the Chaoco buildings were used in the past and provides three theories based on the evidences. However, the professor casts doubt on the points that the author explains, by stating that the theories are not convincing based on other evidences originated by further excavation.
First, the writer of the passage states that the Chao structure were purely residential with each houses having around 100 of people living in. However, the professor explains that the theory is not possible because if there were many people living there, there must be many fireplaces for each family in every house. But he demonstrates that according to the number of fireplaces, there were few families, probably 10 families and in the greater house yards there were around 100 families.
Second, the author believes that the structures were used for food supplying. However, the lecturer believes that the theory is wrong because there were large empty structures without any trace of maize or maize containers. So, emphasizing that there did not exist any remains of container, the speaker opposes the theory.
Third, the author in the passage demonstrates that the houses were used as ceremonial centers because of the remains of pots. However, again the speaker cast doubts on it by providing that archeologists have found lots of other materials too. They have found a large quantity of building construction materials and traces of leftovers of meals for construction builders. He believes that the buildings were used as a trash hill.
