The graph below shows the acid level in mouth from consumption of sugar and honey. Eating sweet foods produces acid in the mouth, which can cause tooth decay. (High acid levels are measured by low pH values).
The supplied line graph comapares the acidity caused by three sweet items such as; fruit sugar, cane sugar nad honey over time. Acidity of mouth is measured by its pH level.
Overall, it is evident that cane sugar is more likely to cause tooth decay, because the pH of mouth remains in danger level for maximum time as compare to other sweet items. While, pH level of mouth after the consumption of honey remains in danger level for minimum amount of time.
Now, turning to details initially at the moment of consumption of sugar in any of the three given forms, the pH level remains 7, followed by below 5.5 after certain amount of time depending upon the source of sugar. After five minutes of the consumption of sugar, the pH level of fruit sugar, cane sugar and honey declines to (just under 5, below 5.5 and 3.5 respectively).
After that, the trend of pH level because of honey stabalizes, whereas; the pH level of fruit sugar increases to about 5, after 10 minutes of sugar consumption. The pH level due to fruit sugar after 18 minutes and that of honey after 12 minutes increases and comes out of the danger of tooth decay. Turning to the pH trend of cane sugar, it remains in danger for nearly about 32 minutes. The pH level of mouth again becomes 7 after 40 minutes of sugar consumption.
