The integrated task from Official TOEFL ibt Volume 2 test #3
In the reading, the author claims that people especially new generations are reading far less literature-novel, plays, and poems and provides three reasons of support. However, the author disagrees and refutes each of author's reasons.
First, the reading author admits that if there is a decline in book reading, so the numbers cut down for literature also. The lecturer rejects the point and she says that the books do not need to be literature to read, while there is history, science and other books those are well written and the people read these books do not show the decrease of reading books.
Second, the author claims that the missing out on the advantage of literature is not the only a problem and says they are poor writers and superficial books. However, the professor refutes the point and she mentions that the reading and cultures have changed. She illustrates this point by giving an example of listening to music which is more direct and people now read the books which directly state the issues.
Third, the author states that the trend of reading less literature is all the more regrettable because it is taking place during a period when good literature is being written. The lecturer opposes and she mentions that it is less supportive, and sometime we should not blame readers instead the author must suffer. sometimes it is difficult to understand when you read.
