Tidal Power
Both the reading passage and the article are discussing Tidal Power.
The reading passage states that Tidal Power consists in a structure built across a river estuary, and Tidal power is able to generate 24 hours electricity. The passage affirms that this type of energy source can provided a alternative power source while the professor argued that this form of energy can only contribute to the production of electricity on a regional level. Thus, it can only replace an insignificant fraction of hydraulic power.
The passage claims that Tidal Power possess great ecological features such as the fact that it is renewable and able to contribute positively to the betterment of the atmosphere. The professor counters this idea by saying that Tidal Power alters the quality of river water and will increase the salinity as well as the mud around the river, which can harm birds. The professor insisted that this type of power source will also destroy the habitat in which it is built. For instance, the fish that use to migrate from river to sea will no longer be able to do so because of the erected barrage. Furthermore, people's economy may also be affected. In fact, fishers will not be able to continue to navigate on estuaries. Thus, fishing is going to be restricted.
