The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The provided table illustrates the percentage of households in five nations, named Ireland, Italy, Spanish, Sweden and Turkey spent on three different types of expenditure during 2002.
At the first glance, in all five countries, citizens spent the highest proportion of their income on the first two categories- Food/ Drink/ Tobacco and Clothing/ Footwear and significantly less on Leisure/ Education.
As shown in the illustration, the Irish and the Turkish households spent the highest percentage of income on Food/ Drink/ Tobacco at 28.91% and 32.14%, respectively. However, only 18.80 per cent of income was spent on this item by Spain households, compared to 16.36% by the Italian and 15.77% by the Swedish. On the other hand, the Italian tended to spend the highest proportion of their income on Clothing/ Footwear at 90%. Meanwhile, people in all other nations- Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Turkey spent more than 5% on the same category at 6.43%, 6.51%, 5.40%, 6.63%, respectively.
The amounts of money, as a percentage of income, that citizens spent for Leisure/ Education was lower. In Spain, people only spent 1.98 per cent of their wages on the last item. The figures for the remaining nations were only ranged from 2 per cent to under 5 per cent.
