Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should governments spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)? Why?
Roads are the most common way to connect places together and public transports are the most popular method that people use to arrive to their destination. But witch one is more important to enhance by governments? I will explain both of these and in the end I will discuss my own point view.
Roads are the icon of development and also the reason of development. In many developed countries there are very high-tech and very safe roads and highways. For instance, in Germany some highways don’t have any speed limitation and this is because of very modern engineering that happened on those and these modern highways lead to make the fastest transportation in the world. Also the most common users of the roads are people who wants to travel from A point to B point and when a country has the fastest and safest highways, members of public can drive on them safely and this can lead to a better society.
Public transportation is essential for any modern community that want to develop. First of all, public transportation can make the travel cheaper and easier. For instance, in many of mega cities around the world there are limited area that people cannot drive in by their own car. And this is because of reduce traffic in those areas. So in this situation the best and only solution is public transportation. Secondary, in these days because of environmental problems all governments encourage their people to use public transportation to reduce greenhouse gases and stop global warming and I think the best way to reach this goal is subways. Because sub ways use electricity that is the purest power source in the world.
To make short the long story, I think governments must spend their money in public transportation because of environmental issues that I mentioned above. But this is essential that governments must improve their current roads and make them safer.
