The professor reputes this view by saying that it may be true in beginning but some birds like to eat whatever available in the environment eventually the prey the mussels when it find out. So, they cannot spread allover the area.
Finally, reading suggests that it can dominate the any Eco system, for example, this population reduced much because mussels even eats plankton, that way it become competitor for fish. The professor opposes this statement by explaining that mussels which produce some nutrient stuff, fish like bottom-fish like eat more. So, they cannot dominate the lake areas as well.
To sum up, the reading says that mussels can spread everywhere because it use ballast-water, ability to survive in varieties of environment and competitor for some species like fish. But, the speaker refutes all these point with evidences.
