The graph below gives information from 2008 a report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Given is the diagram providing clear information about the amount of energy consumed in the USA till 2008 and the predictions of usage in 2030. It is clearly seen that, during the whole period the main source was petrol and oil which is anticipated not to change until 2030.
A glance at the graph reveals that the amount of petrol and oil was 35 quadrillion units in 1980 and after fluctuations till 1995 it began to rise steadily and reached 40 quadrillion units in 2008 which is predicted to increase by 8 quadrillion units in 2030.
Furthermore, the amount of the energy used from coal and natural gas were almost similar, but it is also predicted that the gap between them will widen in the future, precisely, the indicators will show 31 and 25 quadrillion units, respectively.
Referring to the chart it can also be observed that the lines showing the quantity of energy by nuclear, solar and hydropower overlapped from 1980-1988, but after 2008 it is anticipated that the lines will be more stable and show 7, 5 and 2.5 quadrillion units, accordingly.
Overall, it seems that during five decades energy consumption of the USA will change considerably.
