In this set of material, the passage and the lecture offer two opposing points of view about the first existing of bees on earth. While the passage states that the discovery of very old fossil structures was found in Arizona that dated to 200 million years ago cannot be made by bees and provides three reasons of support, the lecture denies all the reasons and calls them unconvincing reasons.
First, the passage asserts that due to the fact that no fossil remains of actual bees have ever been found that date to 200 million years ago, the structures could not build by bees. On the other hand, the lecture refutes this remark; She states that the reason that there are no actual fossil remains of bees is that these creatures are hard to preserve in order to become fossils. In addition, she argues that if there were certain kind of trees which produce rezone in that period, we now may have fossils of bees that date to 200 million years ago.
Second, the article declares that the absence of flowering plants in that period indicates that bees could not exist because those plants are the food source for bees. In contrast, the speaker refutes this remark by illustrating the fact that bees could rely on other kinds of plants in order to obtain their foods.
Finally, the author claims that although the fossilized structure found in Arizona might be similar to modern bees' nest they lack some of the finer details of modern bees' nest. For example, caps. In contradict, the speaker throws down this opinion by shedding light on the truth behind these structures. She states that although these structures lack some of the modern nest features but chemical evidence strongly determine that these structures are similar to the modern counterparts in chemical compounds; for example, they have a material that uses by modern bees in order to prevent water from licking inside the nests.
