In 1990, electricity, gas and water supply sector was responsible for the highest amount of acid rain emissions, at 3.3 million tonnes. Whereas transport and communication sector produced around 0.7 million tonnes of acid rain gases, roughly 0.6 million tonnes came from domestic industry. Meanwhile, only 2 million tonnes of acid rain gases was emitted by other industries.
Electricity, gas and water supply sector reduced its emissions by nearly 3 tonnes to only 0.5 million tonnes in 2007. Emissions from domestic sector and other industries dropped gradually to around 0.2 and 1.2 million tonnes respectively in 2007, whilst transport and communication sector saw a slight growth in acid rain gases to hit a peak of 1 million tonnes in 2005.
