Albert Einstein once said, “All that is valuable in human society depends upon the opportunity for development accorded the individual.” I strongly agree that providing equal opportunities and encouragement to all will foster pursuit for knowledge among students.
A wise man once said, “Everybody is a genius, but if a fish is judged based on its ability to climb, it will lead its entire life thinking it is stupid.” The above quote appropriately conveys a simple but true fact, that many fail to realize in today’s fast paced life. Success is seen as mere numbers – money and grades. This has led to a common phenomena where education has become achievement driven, and is not seen as a means to seek knowledge and overall personality development.
Universities admit students based on numerical pointers, and give little or no consideration to the interest the student has in the field of study. It is often forgotten that the individual is a better judge of his/her capabilities and a passion for the field can help him excel in the area. Many institutions fail to acknowledge the fact that the odds of succeeding in a field are directly proportional to the enthusiasm the student has, for the area.
It is said every failure is a stepping stone to success. The numerous failed attempts that many well known inventors have met, have not discouraged them to try further. If not for these repeated tries, we would not have had electricity, computers or any of the luxuries we are enjoying today. Though the previous performance of a person can be indicative of his weaknesses, there is always scope for improvement and the student could make it big in the area if he/she is truly inclined towards it.
In conclusion, a near perfect education system should never discourage any student based on previous performances but provide ample opportunities for the student to explore.
