The bar chart compares the percentage of household owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 to2011.
From the data supplied, it is conspicuous that household owners showed a steady trend but generally rose dramatically over the period, while the percentage of rented household saw a significant fall. The highest percentage of tenants was about 75% throughout the period in 1918. But with some fluctuation saw a fall from about 68% to 31% between 1939 and 2001 and ultimately reached only around 34% by the end of the period.
In contrast, the households in owned saw an opposite trend. During the 93 years, the proportion of owned dwelling rose from 22% in 1981 to 63% in 2011 in which the owned dwelling percentage had gained around 69% in 2001 which was the highest percentage over the period. In the midway of both trends, the year 1971 equalized the percentage to 50% for both types of accommodation.
Overall, the household owing and renting accommodation experienced dramatic changes. Surprisingly, the percentage of rented accommodation fell in decline and opposite of that owned households significantly increased.
