The reading and the lecture are both contradicting with each other, in terms of the possibility of life on Venus. The author of the article states that it would not be possible to maintain human life on the Venus planet. However, the lecturer casts doubt about the claim mentioned in the article and refutes all the theories presented in the article. He says that the ideas are logical and practically possible to apply.
First of all, according to the reading, almost everything including humans and their spacecraft would be crushed due to the high atmospheric pressure at Venus surface. On the contrary, the speaker negates the argument presented in the passage. Furthermore, he discusses that the pressure is almost the same as the earth at the 50 kilometers high up above the surface of the Venus. He added that there would be no danger for humans and spacecraft at this level.
Secondly, the author posits that it is not possible to acquire water and air at the Venus planet, and it is an impractical way to supply air and water from the earth. Although the lecturer refutes this by asserting that chemicals such as sulfuric acids and carbon dioxide can produce oxygen and water at the station above the Venus surface.
Finally, it is mentioned in the article that humans can not produce enough electricity to power machines due to lack of sunlight reaches the planet's surface. On the other hand, the speaker believes that it is possible to produce sunlight from solar power cells which are established at the station above the surface. That solar cells would form the electricity by absorbing the direct sunlight from the above and reflected light from below at the planet surface. Hence, it is possible to maintain human life on the Venus surface.
