The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport.
The bar chart illustrates the number of exertions to and from school by five to twelve year-old children over the 10 years period by traveling with variety of transports.
Overall, the number of car passenger jumped up, while that of other modes of transport showed declines between 1990 and 2010.
In 1990, walking was the most popular way to travel with 12 millions of trips, following around 7 millions of bus travel which was the second popular one. Cycling and the combination of walking and taking bus showed similar number in trips at slightly over 6 millions and a little bit lower than 6 respectively. Children in around 4.5 millions of trips took car the least.
Conversely, the number of trips with car took over the major number pointing at nearly 11 millions. Trips by foot decreased in half to 6 millions compared to 10 years before. The number of bus trips dropped to approximately 5 millions, while of walking and bus went down to about 3 millions. Finally, Cycling travel number became almost one third as it had only 2 millions.
