The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport.
The bar graph illustrates the various type of different transport students took in order to travel to school and return home namely car, walking, cycling and bus in one specific country during 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the majority students walked to school and back home in the year 1990 then as the time passed more transport options were introduced and children preferred cars as the main travel option in 2010 as seen in the graph.
Upon further investigation, in 1990 around 4 million students were taking car rides in order to reach school. The number of children walking was the highest, recording approximately 12 million trips. The remaining three modes of travel were at a similar level, around 6 million.
Moving to 2010, The students who preferred walking decreased significantly to exactly 6 million which meant rise in car trips recording around 11 million trips. The remaining travel option were lowered when compared to 1990 with cycling registering the lowest students of exactly 2 million.
