The reading and lecture both discuss the uses of vessels that found in Iraq. While the reading provides three explanations why these vessels could not be used as electric batteries, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading avers that people did not use these vessels as batteries. This is because they could not find any conductors or any wires near to these jars. On the other hand, the professor argues this notion by saying that these vessels had been discovered by people are not archaeologist. Moreover, they may be found another materials near to these vessels, but they are not aware that these materials are important. Furthermore, they might found wires and they ignored it.
In addition, the article mentions that these batteries are similar to other batteries found ar Selecus. Furthermore, people at Seleucia used these vessels for holding scrolls. However, the professor questions this point by explaining that the similarity between the two vessels can not approve anything. Moreover, people maybe later added liquid and wire to the vessels and used it as batteries at Seleucia. So, they used it to produce electricity.
Lastly, the reading states that there is no evidence to support the idea that people used these vessels that found at Iraq as batteries. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this idea by pointing out that people may be firstly used it for one purpose then used it to other purposes. For instance, these batteries produced shock tending sensation. So, it was evidence as invisible power. As a result, people used it to convince others that they have power. Furthermore, they could used it for heeling to relive pain or to relax the muscles. As a result, they might used these batteries for some medical purposes.
