The diagram illustrates the stages of electricity generation in a hydroelectric power station. In a hydroelectric power station, there are two reservoirs with high-level and low-level.
Firstly, the water from the river is saved behind a dam, during a day, the dam gates are opened for intake, then the water can flow to the power station for electricity generation. After that, the reversible turbine operates the generator and generates electricity. Finally, electricity flows through power lines to the national grid. Furthermore, the water is saved in a low-level reservoir.
In following, during a night, water flows from the low-level reservoir to the power station. In the power station, generator pumps water into the high-level reservoir. Then, the pumped water flows to the high-level reservoir. Because of closed da gates, water is saved behind the dam.
To sum up, according to the diagram, electricity for national consumption is generated by water flows.
