Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine, which uses hydrogen to create electricity that, in turn, powers the car. Fuel-cell engines have several advantages over internal-combustion engines and will probably soon replace them.
One of the main problems with the internal-combustion engine is that it relies on petroleum, either in the form of gasoline or diesel fuel. Petroleum is a finite resource; someday, we will run out of oil. The hydrogen needed for fuel-cell engines cannot easily be depleted. Hydrogen can be derived from various plentiful sources, including natural gas and even water. The fact that fuel-cell engines utilize easily available, renewable resources makes them particularly attractive.
Second, hydrogen-based fuel cells are attractive because they will solve many of the world's pollution problems. An unavoidable by-product of burning oil is carbon dioxide, and carbon dioxide harms the environment. On the other hand, the only byproduct of fuel-cell engines is water.
Third, fuel-cell engines will soon be economically competitive because people will spend less money to operate a fuel-cell engine than they will to operate an internal-combustion engine. This is true for one simple reason: a fuel-cell automobile is nearly twice as efficient in using its fuel as an automobile powered by an internal-combustion engine is. In other words, the fuel-cell powered car requires only halfthe fuel energy that the internal-combustion powered car does to go the same distance.
The reading passage and lecture have conflicting opinions about whether hydrogen based fuel-cell engine is efficient or not. The article strongly postulates that using fuel-cell has many benefits in internal-combustion engines also it is the most persuasive choice from other alternatives. On the other hand, The listening adamantly delineates that the problems are mentioned in the passage are true but it isn't mean the solution exactly because of several compelling reasons.
First and foremost, According to the author of the excerpt that the internal-combustion engine primarily relies on oil which is triggered from either fuel or gas so it will absolutely run out soon but fuel-cell engines arise from natural gas even water so it means it isn't depleted. Nonetheless, the professor offsets these points by declaring that triggering fuel-cell engine isn't as simple as the author points out because it requires highly artificial technology that means so hard to produce it even water isn't helpful.
On top of this, The professor in the listening elaborates by bringing up the point that using alternative source also bring the pollution problem due to the fact that refinement of fuel-cell engine process the manufactories have to burn coal for producing energy.
these claims refute the writer's implications which about petroleum get a lot of environmental issue such as air pollution of cars so using another method is the great resolution for this issue.
The text lastly insists that producing fuel-cell engine isn't as high-priced as the previous one also it is double energy efficient than fuel energy compared to going the same distance. The speaker in the lecture counters these indications by asserting that manufacturing the fuel-cell engine demands rare metal is so precious. If without it it doesn't undergo the chemical reaction even the scientists haven't discovered a cheaper alternative metal.
