The chart below shows numbers of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled
(PMT) by transportation type in 2002.
It is clear from the chart that the number of incidents per 100 million PMT was consistently larger than that of injuries in all five forms of transport. The figures for injuries and incidents in demand are the largest, at 173 and 225 respectively.
We can see from the chart that there is no obvious difference in the number of injuries and incidents when people chose commuter rail as a transportation tool. Meanwhile, the figures for these two cases were the smallest, with 20 incidents and 17 injuries happening respectively.
It can be seen from the chart that the number of incidents happening in light rail and bus is the same (76 per 100 million PMT), whereas the figure for injuries in the bus (66 per 100 million) was larger than the number of injuries in light rail (36 per 100 million). The number of incidents and injuries in heavy rail are 51 and 35 peer 100 million PMT.
Overall, demand response had the largest figures in terms of injuries and incidents. Light rail and bus showed the same number of incidents.
