The reading and lecture both discuss how agnostids were living. While the reading provides three explanations about how agnostids were living, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading avers that agnostids were swimming predators and they fed on small organisms. On the other hand, the professor questions this idea by saying that we know that arthropods that live on ocean have a well developed eyes that help them to catch their prey. However, agnostids had very poor eyes and they were almost blind. So, if they chase after the prey, they should have another organs to help them catch their prey, but there is no records about that.
Secondly, the article mentions that agnostids were seafloor because they found modern arthrapods live the same way. However, the professor refutes this idea by saying that animals seafloor do not have the ability to move fast. Moreover, they live in localized are and each dwellers should be in small geographic area. However, agnostids were at multi areas . So, there were fast enough to move from area to another area. In fact, animals that have this ability are highly unusual seafloor.
Lastly, the reading states that agnotids were parasites living on large organisms because they recognized modern arthropods exist as parasites. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this idea by explaining that the parasites population are not large and they are limited. Furthermore, too many parasites will kill their hosts. In addition, the agnostids populations is very large and they could not find fossil that can support that agnostids were parasites.
