The graph below shows electricity production (in terawatt hours) in France between 1980 and 2012
The given line graph illustrates the amount of electricity produced from three main sources in France over a period of 32 years starting from 1980.
As can be seen from the graph, it is clearly evident that electricity production from nuclear power registered the highest among the four while the amount of electricity generated from that of renewable energy was by far the lowest during the period shown.
In 1980, about 120 terawatt hours of electricity were produced from thermal power. In the same year, nuclear and hydroelectricity stations produced around 75 terawatt hours of electricity each. Renewable energy provided a negligible amount. One year later, nuclear energy overtook thermal energy as the primary source of electricity.
From 1980 to 2005, electricity production from nuclear power soared significantly to reach a peak of some 430 terawatt hours. By contrast, the figure for thermal energy saw a slight decline to only 50 terawatt hours in 1985 and remained almost unchanged for the rest of the period. The production of electricity from hydroelectric power stayed relatively stable, at around 50 terawatt hours and 80 terawatt hours, over the whole 32-year period. The amount of electricity produced from renewable energy rose slightly gradually during the last seven years.
