(NO RELATION WITH THE CONTEXT) The reading discusses Essential Air Service (EAS) is a US government program created by the United States Department of Transportation for people living in the rural area where commercial air service is not profitable and benefits of this air service to the local people. The lecturer's view on this matter contradicts the reading.
First of all, the reading states that EAS helps the local people to adopt air transportation and narrows the gap between poor and rich. But, the lecturer thinks that all those communities can be accessible via bus, car, etc. Moreover, he also thinks that it is a waste of time and does not impact the relationship between poor and rich.
Secondly, it will help the local communities tourism as it enable more easy transportation system. But, the professor of the lecture argues that all these focus should be on economic development and money should be spent on planning and construction of the development.
Finally, the reading states that as the air service has small aircraft, there will be less cost for operating and maintaining all these aircraft. But the lecturer argues that it takes a lot of money to maintaince all these aircraft.
Therefore, although there are many reasons presented in the reading as to why the ESA does something good, the lecture suggest otherwise. The professor pokes holes in every argument presented in the reading
