The table illustrates the percentage of various types of families those are poor in Australia in 1999.
It is clear that the highest number of poor families are couples with children while the greatest proportion of those living in poverty belongs to sole parent among given categories.
According to the table,there were 933.000 poor families among couples with children who made up only 12% of this category.Considerably lower number of families at 359.000 represented almost one fifth of single ones without children.Turning to the sole parent families,here also approximately one fifth of families are poor but the relevant number of families are lower at 232.000.When it comes to couples without children,7 percent of them lived in poverty closely followed by single aged people and aged couples at 6% and 4% respectively.All in all,in 1999 11% of families in Australia had little money to live and suffered from poverty,which means 1.837.000 poor families.
