There is no doubt that todays generations are tomorrow's citizens. There has been heated discussions as to decide whether parents or schools are responsible to mould perfect future citizenry. In this discussion, both the views are examined in detail to arrive at a tenable opinion.
On the one hand, as a basic unit of society, it is the duty of each families to lay the foundation of good social manners in a child. It is only from the grown up, their young ones learn how to be in a public space or what are the socially accepted actions. For example, majority of toddlers acquire basic linguistic skills before they join a school, so that they always imitate their guardians language and behaviour. Also, a pre schooler learns about honesty and truthfulness that are essential qualities, from home. Hence it goes without saying that parents do have an inevitable role in implanting social virtues on their offsprings.
On the other hand, as a bigger form of society, students could learn much more about social norms and responsibilities from the educational institutions. It is from there they learn to co operate with others and to obey the authority. Along with academics, each member of the faculty teaches them how to be in a social situation. Moreover, learning about the history and culture enhances the feeling of patriotism which is the pavement to become good citizen in their upcoming lives. Finally, good interpersonal relationships and communication skills are easily acquired by the aspirants from the school environment. Teachers could use their commanding power also to teach the duties to the students.
Having analysed both the perspectives, even though both parents and school are equally responsible to develop law abiding populace, I personally believes that teaching centres held higher role in this,as the growing pupil spend majority of their time in such institutions and gain knowledge about the outside world.
Therefore, both family and schools have remarkable duties in the formation of fine future citizens, however, the role of schools are far higher in this scenario.
