This chart illustrates the trends of migration from Great Britian between year 19999 and 2008.
Overall, immigrants were far more than emigrants and except a few variations, both increased in number over the years. The net migration was maximum in 2004.
Starting from 19999, nearly 300,000 people emigrated from UK while exactly 450,000 became immigrants. This trend rose steadily until year 2000 but levelled off in next year. Resultantly, in 2002 people moving out of UK had grown to approximately 350,000 but again stayed same until 2004. In contrast, incoming population showed a sharp rise reaching up to about 600,000 in 2004. The net migration, however, stayed largely uniform from about 160,000 in 1999 until 2004 when it peaked to approximately 250,000.
After 2004, the immigration trend appeared consistent till the end of timeline, however, emigration experienced a sharp decline between 2006 and 2007 from 400,000 to about 350,000. It recovered rapidly between 2007 to 2008 when proportion of population escalated to around 450,000 people. However, the net migration after 2004 returned to 200,000 until 2006, regained its momentum in 2007 but declined to exactly where it started from in 2008.
