The graphs show changes in spending habits of people in UK
The pie charts illustrate shifts of UK spending patterns over a course of 30 years starting from 1971.
As can be seen from the pictures, the amount of money spent for books and food tended to decrease, while an opposite tendency was witnessed in expenditure on computers, eating out and cars. On the other hand, the percentage of furniture and petrol remained relatively stable.
In 1971, food accounted for the majority of the total money spent in UK with 44%, followed by 22% of cars. The proportion of petrol made up for 10% and the total other salary spent for the restaurant, furniture equipment, computers and books occupied for about 25% with the portion of 7%,9%,2% and 6% relatively.
After 30 years, the percentage of food declined dramatically by 30%, however that number of cars which was the biggest item expenditure rising from 22% in 1971 to 43% in 2001. In addition, the amount of money spent on petrol decreases slightly by 2% and the percentage of eating out doubled to 14%. People in the UK spent more money on computers than 1971 with the percentage of 12%, by contrast books dropped from 6% in 1971 to 1% at the end of the researched period.
