The author in the passage describes about the process "Prescibed fire" which involves setting forest fire deliberately which in turns reduces the risk factor of natural forest fire. Furthermore, passage describes about the advantages of pescribed fire. The professor in the lecture refutes the passage by giving many safe alternative to this process.
Firstly, the passage states that prescribed burning reduces the amount of fuel which accumulate on forest floor and can lead to a potential forest fire. The author further adds that prescribes fire burns low to the ground and cannot damage the large trees. However, the professor in the lecture posits that there are many alternatives to forest fire which is less dangerous than prescribed fire. The professor adds that Mechanical cleaning, thinning: Selling different trees which can cathc fire easy to comapnies which requires such tree and letting goats to clean the leaves and deadwoods which can lead to potential wild forest frire.
Seocndly, the passages clamis that prescibes fire can reduce the pollution which would occur during a wildfire and it also helps to restore nutrients to the soil and help forest to renew itself. However, the lectures states that fire is a part of nature and weather is always unpredictable. Moreover, if various other method are available which does not involve any kind of pollution then implementing those methods is a wise decision then using prescibed fires.
Thirdly, the author explains that prescribed fire is a science which should be practiced by forest professionals only after calculating the environment conditions around the forest. Furthermore, writer adds that out of many prescribed fires only one percent have been out of control. On the contrary, the professor explains that even if one percent gets out of control it can lead to a lot of damage and it can costs a lot to the residents near the forest and also to the government.the professor explains this poitn by citing an example of prescibed fire which resulted in a forst fire and caused damage to naitves around the forest.
Hence, by this way the author suppoets the use of prescribed fire and the professor refutes the author stand about the topic.
