Some high schools require all students to wear school uniforms. Other high schools permit students to decide what to wear to school. Which of these two school policies do you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Every school has specific policies to keep the students under discipline. Some people think that high schools should make it compulsory for the students to wear school uniforms, however, other hold the idea that the schools permit them to dress what they want to. Considering the benefits, I am of the opinion that the schools should require the students to wear school uniforms. I feel this way for the following reasons.
First of all, admittedly, wearing uniform could save a lot of precious time which could in fact, be utilised to do something meaningful. Wearing civil dress in the school means, one spends time buying in new variety of clothes and taking more time than required in the morning to get ready for the school, which does not have any practical implication in seeking education. My sister is a compelling example for this. When she was in 11th grade, her college didn’t have the concept of school uniform. Students used to dress by their own choice. Thus, every morning my sister spent half hour deciding on what to wear for the school and shop clothes every weekend. Consequently, she would waste a lot of time and energy in clothing. On the other hand, unlike her school, we were suppose to wear school dress code. I just had a pair of fixed similar dress to wear on alternate days. As a result, I need not waste my time shopping fashionable clothes. Moreover, I would wake up in the morning, do self-study instead and get ready for the school in 10 min. I believe, it was my early morning studies which helped me score good grades in high school.
Furthermore, uniforms in schools promote equality among children. My neighbour is a teacher in high school. She shared her experience as a proctor, about how students feel and compare, when they wear clothes of their own choice. She explained that the rich kids purchase expensive outfits of latest fashion which a kid belonging to a middle class family can’t afford to buy. As a consequence, the upper class family children develop superiority complex. In addition, the kids of modestly earning families nurture the feeling of low esteem. They communicate less and feel discrete in the class because of their attire. Clearly, this is not something which a school would want to facilitate among the students. Thus, wearing similar dress in the school can clearly restrain such negative behaviour and thoughts in the students.
In conclusion, weighing the demerits of wearing civil dress in high school, I vehemently support the policy of kids wearing school uniform. This is because it could help the students to manage time and do something meaningful, and because it could upsurge equality within the classmates.
