Two line graphs illustrate the typical behaviour of radio listeners and tv viewers in the UK during 24 hours. The data is shown for the year 1992 and is provided in percentages of UK population for people older than 4 years.
The main feature that is immedeate apparent is the opposite tendency both curves exhibit. Whereas radio listeners peak in the morning, tv viewership is at its maximum in the evening and vice versa.
The relevant percentage figure for radio audiences at the peak value is just short of 30 per cent at around 8.30 am. Subsequently, radio listeners gradually decrease to nearly 0 per cent at 4 am. Nonetheless, a slight bump in radio audience is perceived at around 4 pm, where listenership jumps up a few percentages from around 12%. Simulary, a slight increase is also visible at around 10.30 pm, however to a lesser extent.
The tendency for tv audiences appears anti-correlated to radio audiences as foreshadowed earlier. While radio experienced a maximum audience at 8 am, tv viewership is about 6 times less at just 5 per cent. Contrarily, at 8.30 pm nearly 50 per cent of the UK population had turned on their tv, after which tv viewership drastically declined as night time approached.
