The line graph below shows the number of serious crimes that occurred in London between 2003 and 2012.
The line graph compares how many armed robberies, assaults and murders were committed in London from 2003 to 2012.
Overall, the number of armed robberies reported decreased significantly over the entire period, while assault cases increased. The figure of murder incidents remained relatively stable. It is also noticeable that at the start of the period until 2006, armed robbery was the most common recorded crime and in the following years, it was replaced by assault cases.
The number of committed cases for armed robberies started at just under 3,500 in 2003, then it rose slightly to peak at just over 3,500 in the following year. The figure declined every year and dropped to a low of approximately 1,000 in 2008, then subsequently climbed to nearly 1,500 until 2012.
On the other hand, the amount of assaults that transpired in 2003 was about 2,400, after which it fluctuated slightly for the succeeding 5 years when the lowest number of cases was noted, before rocketing up to just over 2,500 in the final year. Murder's figure hovered around 500 to 1000 throughout the entire period.
