The reading article and lecture both talked about Jane Austen, the famous English novelist. The article state that there is a portrait of teenage Jane is owned by her family and there are good reasons to believe this. However, the professor explaining that is not convincing and questionable. He also refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading state that the portrait is recognized by her family and has endorsed the claim that the girl in the painting is Jane Austen. Nevertheless, the professor rebuts this point by stating that the portrait is recognized almost 70 years after her death and the family member may not see her. So, this can be not her paint.
Second, the article avers that the face of the portrait is similar to the one in Cassandra's sketch. It says that the features are very much like in the full-length portrait with the sketch. Nonetheless, the lecture contends that the face of sketch can be resembled with any similar relative's face. Because Jane has many cousins who may resemble her. Their faces can look like hers. Professor gives an example of Mary to emphasize his claim.
Third, the reading posits that the style of the portrait is linked to Ozias Humphrey who was the kind of professional the wealthy Austen family would hire. The lecture opposes this point by saying that the style may like the Ozias Humphrey, but they used canvas painting after the Jane young age. They used blank canvas on painting which they used to use the period when Jane was not a teenager.
