TPO 21- Integrated Task
The article states that genetic modifition helps wild trees in different aspects and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that there are some benefits with this kind of trees but this is not completely true in most of the conditions, and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that modified trees can resist hard conditions easier than natural trees. The professor refutes this point by saying that they are modified and resisted toward certain type of pest and situation. In severe situation, natural trees are affected completely, but some of them will survive because of different characteristics that they have. On the other hand, modified trees are uniform and are affected similar to each other. Therefore, if one of them is destroyed, others will die too.
Second, the article posits that modified trees are econimically efficient for their owners. However, the professor says that it is not true because owners should pay to original company for seeding each season by law. For natunaral trees, it is possile to use seed of previous tree to grow new one and it does not rise any cost.
Third, the article says that modified trees are a good option for replacing wild trees which are cut for other usage. The professor opposes this point by explaining that modified trees should grow in agressive environment which can have effect on wild trees. So, it is possible that modified trees lessen natural trees population.
