The pie charts illustrate what percentages the urban chinese people spent in the years 1995 and 2011 in major categories.
As it can be seen from both year’s data that they spent most of their money for food, namely, 50% in 1995 and 36% in 2011. The other expenses are smaller compared to this category. In 1995, the urban chinese spent 14% in clothing, which stands second to food expenses. Among the other categories in the same year, recreation, education and culture accounted for a considerable percentage of expenditure, which is 10%. The rest of the expenses are taken up by residential,transportation and communication, medicine and household facilities each of which account for less than 10%.
Looking at the chart for 2011, after food comes the expense of transportation and communication, which has increased substantially (14%). Percentage of clothing expense has decreased as compared to 1995, which is now 11%, whereas recreation and education expenditure has increased. Among the rest, they had to spend more in medicine. The others stand for roughly the same proportions.
