TPO 10
Environmental pollution caused the rapid decline in the population of sea otter. The professor, however, refutes the idea, in detail.
Foremost, the reading suggests that the water-samples revealed extreme amount of industrial chemical pollution, which caused the otters' death. The professor, however, assesses the point asserting that predators are the main cause of the otters' death; accordingly, if pollution caused the otter's death, the corpse would have been found in sea shores, which is not true.
According to the reading, other sea mammals' population is also decreasing in the same location, suggesting that pollution affected the ecosystem. In contrast, the professor suggests that the population-decreasing is mainly occurring in smaller ones. According to the professor, predators choose smaller prays; therefore only smaller otters' population is decreasing.
Finally, the author wraps his argument positioning that pollutions along the coast caused the uneven decline in the otter population. In contrast, the professor claims that predators can not access shallow and rocky locations; therefore, the otters' population in those areas is constant.
To sum up, the author and the professor have conflicting ideas about the reason behind the otter's population death, and they would have trouble finding common ground about the issue.
