The main topic of both the reading and the talk is whether maintaining a human presence on Venus is possible or not. Whereas the author posits that it would be impossible, the lecturer refutes this claim, casting doubt on every single point made by the author.
First, the reading passage holds the view that atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface is greater than the pressure at Earth's surface. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that if the floating station is established fifty kilometers upon the Venus' surface, the pressure would have not been too high and nothing would be crushed.
Second, in contrast to the reading, which claims that there is no source of water and oxygen on Venus' surface, the lecturer states that there are chemical procedures which are able to produce water and oxygen using the material on the Venus' such as carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. As a result, water and oxygen would not have to be supplied to Venus from Earth.
Finally, according to the reading passage significant percent of sunlight is reflected back into space because of the presence of the thick clouds that fill the atmosphere. However, the professor makes it clear that clouds above 50 kilometers Venus' surface are not as thick as nearby clouds. Therefore, the sunlight could get through these clouds. The professor asserts that the clouds could reflect the light, so the solar power cells would be able to get both reflect and direcet sunlight. As a result, humans coud get enough electricity to power their machines.
