The given graph shows the main sources of energy in the USA in two separate years.
The pie charts compare the five different sources of energy in the USA in two separate years.
Overall, the primary source of energy in the USA was the oil in both years, whereas hydroelectric power was the least. It is also noticeable that there was a decrease in energy production by oil and natural gas while the figures for coal and nuclear power increased slightly.
The amount of energy produced by oil in 1980 was 42%, which was by far the highest, and this figure dropped to around a third in 1990. Energy production from the hydroelectric power station remained stable in both years at 5%, which was the lowest figure in the period given.
The energy generated by coal and nuclear power both went up by 5% in 1990 to 27% and 10% respectively. By contrast, the second largest source of energy in 1980, which was the natural gas, had a slight drop of 1% to a quarter in 1990.
