The pie charts show the major energy sources in the USA in 1980 and 1990. It is evident from the charts that in both years, oil was the major source of energy, accounting for over 30%.
In 1980, oil accounted for more than two-fifth of US energy source. This was followed by natural gas at 26% . Ten years on, the use of oil dropped to 33%, while there was no significant change in natural gas use. There was also a slight change in the use of coal as an energy source. As at 1980, coal was 22% but by 1990, it had increased slightly to form 27% of the energy used.
Interestingly, hydroelectric power is the smallest source of energy in the USA and this remained unchanged in both years. In contrast, nuclear power doubled in use, from 5% in 1980, it increased to10% in 1990.
To sum up, there was slight change in the use of natural gas and coal between the two years in review, one the other hand, the reduction in the use of oil was replaced by the increase in nuclear source.
