In the lecture, the professor explains why forest fires is considered part of the ecological cycle and what are their benefits. This, however, contradicts the reading, which states that there are three major damage caused by the "let it burn" policy.
First, the speaker asserts that fires allow forests or parks to become more diversity because when fire destroys areas covered with big trees, This allows smaller plants to take over and to grow. Also, she mentions that some plant seed species do not germinate unless they exposed to high heat. That's why fire creates the perfect environment for them to grow. This opposes the article, which states that Yellowstone's fires caused tremendous damage to the park's trees and vegetation.
Second, fires can benefit the animals around it to recover and survive since small plants grow after fires, this creates perfect habitat for small animals like rabbits to thrive and recover. On the other hand, the reading challenges this point by saying that the park wildlife is affected and the destruction of habitats there makes it impossible foe the animal to survive.
Finally, although fires can affect the attraction to the national parks if it happens every year, the Yellowstone did not experience any other fires since 1988. This refutes the text, which states that fires compromise the value of the park and decrease tourist attraction.
