In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States—birds in particular. Unfortunately for birds, these trends are likely to continue, with the result that the number of birds in the United States will necessarily decline.

First, as human populations and settlements continue to expand, birds' natural habitats will continue to disappear. Forests, wetlands, and grasslands will give way to ever more homes, malls, and offices. As the traditional areas suitable for birds keep decreasing, so will the size of the bird populations that depend on those vanishing habitats.

Second, agricultural activities must increase to keep pace with the growing human population. The growth of agriculture will also result in the further destruction of bird habitats as more and more wilderness areas are converted to agricultural use. As a result, bird populations in rural areas will continue to decline.

Third, as human settlements expand and agriculture increases, the use of chemical pesticides will also increase. Pesticides are poisons designed to kill agricultural and home garden pests, such as insects, but inevitably, pesticides get into the water and into the food chain for birds where they can harm birds. Birds that eat the poisoned insects or drink contaminated water can die as a result, and even if pesticides do not kill birds outright, they can prevent them from reproducing successfully. So pesticides have significantly contributed to declines in bird population, and because there will continue to be a need to control agricultural pests in the future, this decline will continue.

The reading and the lecturer are both talk about the possibility of a reduction of the bird population in the us. Whereas, the author of the reading states that, the growth of humans and the practice of increasing agricultural areas and fertilizers might cause the reduction of the bird population, the lecturer suggests that this may not as badly infected as the author predicts. she casts doubts on the mani three points made by the reading providing three reasons.

First of all, according to the reading, the expansion of the human population will continue to replace the habitant areas of the birds and thus those populations tend to vanish. However, the lecturer disputes this point. she says that the increase of urbanization is not necessarily to cause to reduce the bird populations. further , he mentions that the number of different bird species is now increasing in the urban areas that were previously unpleasant.

Secondly, the author states that the expansion of further agriculture will cover the bird habitant place to fields and thus reducing their population. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. she argues that by implication of the new technology people now need less land to grow a huge amount of food. she also adds that the productivity and variety of food are also increased by the application of new technology.

Finally, the reading claims that the use of poisonous pesticides and for this the reduction of insects which are the main food of many birds species are reduced. Moreover, the birds are being more vulnerable by eating those poisonous insects. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that new pest control pesticides are less toxic and the introduction of the new agricultural species which are more resistive to the pest are surely not effected the bird populations.

In conclusion, although the reading and the lecturer both talk about the bird population they both are clearly different opinions to the point.
