Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.
Language barrier can cause many social as well as practical problems living in a country where people speak different language. To which in my opinion I partially agree with the statement as knowing the native language were you are going to live is very important or it may cause hindrance in many ways.
First of all, it is kind of quiet obvious that if one does not know the native language of the country that they are staying in may cause serious problems. For example, if a student from India whose native language is not English and does not have any grip on the English language decides to move into a English speaking country for further studies then the individual might find it difficult to communicate with the professor and the natives of the country as well. The main purpose of getting education may seem practically near to impossible without knowing native language.
Secondly, on the other hand if a individual living in a country which speaks different language then the individuals native language does not always mean that the individual would face problems. If the individual is well aware and has a solid grip of the native language of the country then it would not cause any hindrance. For example, if a individual applies for permanent residency of Canada and knows the native language of Canada which is English and French and is proficient at both the languages then it would help the individual to settle into the culture of the country faster.
To conclude, living in a country where one has to speak foreign language is easy if one knows the native language of the country and if not it many cause many problems.
