Overall, it is noticeable that the average miles travelled by the Englishes for all forms of travelling except walking, bicycle and local bus, increased significantly. Car is the vehicle which was used more than any others over the period shown.
According to the estatistics, the number of miles travelled by car in 1985 was 3199, and this rose to 4806 in the year 2000. Similarly, the average distance travelled by long distance bus, train, taxi and other modes also increased in the given period. It can be seen that the most significant change in the figure of miles was for taxi, with a threefold rise from 13 to 42 in 1985 and 2000 respectively.
In contrast, the was a slight decrease in the miles which English people travelled in three forms, namely walking, bicycle and local bus. The Englishes walked an average of 255 in 1985 and fell by 18 to 237 in 2000. The biggest downward change was in the use of local buses with average miles per person falling from 429 to 274 over the period of 15 years.
